Love this book! Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes... in You and Your Kids

I received this book last month and let me tell you I was a bit skeptical. You see, I have a very active and strong-willed 3 year old son and we have our fair share of whining, complaining and bad attitudes that we deal with on a daily basis. I feel like most parenting books are written by people with compliant little girls who just think that if you do things a certain way you are sure to have the perfect child. I am so glad that I gave this book a chance. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller address the entire family attitude and how to change our hearts –not just our behavior– to show each other honor.

Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes… in you and your kids! is a Christian parenting book by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller. I love the focus on honoring each other… treating people as special, doing more than what’s expected, and having a good attitude.

In addition to defining honor, the books lists 6 different ways to teach honor to our kids:

#1 Teach children to treat people as special
#2 Teach children to do more than what’s expected
#3 Deal with a bad attitude
#4 Create honor lessons in life
#5 Model it
#6 Appeal to conscience

I love that the book addresses teaching honor to your kids, but also how we can honor them as parents. I am trying to be more careful in how I talk with my son… especially when he is in trouble. We have really taken time out recently to talk to him about how he is feeling when he is angry. He is starting to understand and communicate so much more on his own. We had this conversation the other day (totally initiated by him)

Kiddo: “I have anger in my heart!”
Me: “Do you want to have anger or love and happiness in your heart?”
Kiddo: “I want to have love, but it is so hard to be good when I have anger in my heart.”
We then talked about how we can show love and honor to each other and he apologized and then ran to his Daddy to tell him he now has love in his heart! All this from a 3 year old!

Another thing I really like about the book is that it has a “Take it a Step Further” section at the end of each chapter with discussion questions. I really want to get the book for a few of my family and friends and read it together.

This book is on sale on Amazon for only $10.19 Right now, they are offering their Honor Multi-media Package ($59.95 value) for free to anyone who purchases the book. I love your review of this book. I’m so glad that you were able to talk about the content in the book and about how you are living out the principles in your home. The concept of honor has been revolutionary in my life. It has helped me as a father, husband, leader, supervisor, coach, and in other areas. Our sons are both adults now but they are both living out a life of honor. We returned home from vacation in December to find our whole house cleaned and a Christmas tree in place in the corner of the living room. Now that is honor! Honor changes people. It can change any family! Thanks again for posting!
