It seems my family is always sick. Someone might be getting over something, but then, sure enough, someone else gets something new. It feels like we get sick every time we leave the house! And even the simple colds seem to last forever.
I am not a naturalist. I am progressing to be more natural, but I am the first one to be popping the Nyquil to help me breathe, not cough, and sleep at night when I’m sick. And yes, I give cold medicine to my children. (Does that make me a bad mom? Or a good one?)
I would LIKE to be more natural, however, so if I find something natural that is a) convenient, b) inexpensive, c) effective, and d) not gross, I’m all over it! AND THIS IS IT!!!!!
Unfortunately I can’t get my kids to take it … yet. But the last two out of two times this has saved me from getting their cold. At the first sign of a sore throat (always my first symptom ) I began taking this twice a day. At first I would just mix the teaspoon of raw honey and quarter teaspoon of cinnamon in a mug and eat it from the spoon. This was sooooo thick and sticky-sweet, however, that it made my teeth ache. Then I had the idea of adding a bit of lemon juice to cut it. Just about perfect. Sometimes I would add half a mug of hot water and drink it, and other times I just added the honey and cinnamon to a cup of tea. Both times, I had a sore throat for 3 1/2 days and then it was gone, with no cold symptoms following. Hurray!
Hmmm, I just noticed on the blog that her children use it as a fruit dip! Great idea!
