Eco-friendly Glass Straws

While we are far from being a super eco-conscious, recycle everything, eat only organic, sustainable foods family, we still try to be fairly eco-friendly in our day to day lives. When the people at GlassStraws.com sent me some of their glass drinking straws to try out, I was pretty excited at the chance. Reusable straws… awesome!

I use plastic straws all of the time. For some reason I just like drinking from a straw… perhaps because I absolutely hate it when I am drinking something out of a glass and all of the ice at the bottom comes loose and smacks me in the face! You know what I am talking about, don’t you? Umm… well, maybe it is just me that has this problem, but nevertheless it has fed my straw addiction.

When I first got the package in the mail from GlassStraws.com I was very impressed with the packing job. Major bubble wrap protection and all of the straws arrived intact. My second reaction was “Eeeek! I sure hope I don’t break one!” It turns out that there was no need to worry about breaking the straws. They are thick and very durable and after checking out the website, I learned that if they ever were to break, they have a LIFETIME GUARANTEE! Whew!

I have used the straws pretty much every day and really do like them. They can be put in the dishwasher (a must for anything in my kitchen!) and always come out clean. GlassStraws.com sent a few different types of straws for me to try and my favorites are the standard straight straw and the large bent straw (perfect for milkshakes).

A few other things that make Glass Straws a great choice are that they are…

  • Thick, Rugged and Durable
  • Comfortable to Use
  • Dishwasher and Microwave Safe
  • Safe for any temperature drink
  • Hypoallergenic
  • 100% non toxic
  • Reusable
  • Life Warranty against breakage of any kind

Unbreakable enough that you would let your kiddo use/handle them?  And I’m curious about cleaning them.  I know you said they cleaned great.  But I have a hard plastic one that came with a reusable plastic cup and I threw it away because the inside is yucky and impossible to clean.  Perhaps I let my smoothie dry in it?

I did let kiddo use them, but with his plastic cups… and I was closely watching.  He did fine, but I don’t feel comfortable giving them to him for normal use.  I am too afraid he will throw them or chomp down and break it … I haven’t tested how well they would hold up to a pair of 3 year old chompers and don’t intend to!  LOL!

They did come out of the dishwasher perfectly clean.  I will say that I only used them for soda and water.  They cleaned up way better than those yucky hard plastic ones that come with the plastic cups.  I did see that GlassStraws.com sells a straw cleaning brush which might be useful if you have dried on smoothie or have to hand wash.

Before I received these I had never even considered glass straws or knew they existed.  I really do like them ;)
