I am normally a magnet for mosquito bites. Seriously. They love me. I also am pretty allergic to the bites and swell up terribly whenever those pesky bugs attack.
On our last camping trip, however, I only received 2 bites. I owe it all to my new DIY Insect Repellent made from Geranium Hydrosol!
I used my Geranium Hydrosol spray on myself and my 3 kiddos and I was the only one to get a bite. The kids were mosquito bite free all week!
Are you ready for my super secret, “recipe”? It is super easy…
DIY Insect Repellent
Geranium Hydrosol in a spray bottle
See.. I told you it was easy!!!
I am really starting to love Hydrosols and reach for them even more than my essential oils. Hydrosols carry many of the same qualities as their essential oil counterparts, but are much more gentle. My favorite aspect of Hydrosols is that they are safe for children and pets. Not all essential oils are safe to use around kids and I tend to play it safe when using anything around my kiddos.
A little bit about Hydrosols..
A hydrosol, also known as floral water or hydrolat, is the aromatic water that contains both water soluble plant components and very small amounts of essential oil. This is the solution that remains after an essential oil is distilled via steam distillation. All hydrosols can be used in creating lotions and other herbal preparations. Most are gentle enough for use with children and pets. Using on the skin or in room sprays and linen mists are some of the most popular ways to use hydrosols.
I received my Hydrosols from Plant Therapy and can’t recommend them enough. They sell high quality essential oils and hydrosols and carrier oils. They are committed to safety for essential oil use and even have a great Kid Safe line of essential oils.
